I started using the pen tool. Plus I draw on a really high resolution.

what res, just out of curiosity, because I have the same problem of having shitty looking line art when I'm done tracing my roughs XD I usually go with 300 dpi

usually 300 dpi. and i also use the pen tool. It helps make them nice and crisp
